Questions We Hear a Lot
What is my move going to cost?
Two things set the number: how much you are moving and how tough the access is. A two-mover crew with a truck starts at $135/hr, and you get an itemized estimate in writing before we carry the first box. Want a hard ceiling? Ask for a flat cap and the figure you sign is the most you can be charged. Out-of-state jobs price out on weight and the distance.
My place is a historic row house with narrow stairs. Is that a problem?
Not for us. We move plenty of the row houses and brownstones on Capitol Hill, in Georgetown, and around Shaw, where the stoops are steep, the staircases turn tight, and there is no driveway in sight. We measure the doorways, pad the rails and jambs, and hoist or hand-carry whatever will not make the corner.
When does the clock start running?
It starts when the crew gets to work at your door, not when we leave the lot. After the first hour we bill by the minute, so an extra ten minutes costs ten minutes, not a rounded-up hour. We go over the crew rate and how travel time is counted before anyone lifts a thing.
Do I need a parking permit for the moving truck in DC?
For most District addresses, yes, and we take care of it. DC requires temporary Emergency No Parking signs so the truck can sit legally at your curb, and we file for them ahead of your date. On blocks where a permit is not needed we still scout the spot so the crew is not circling for parking on move day.
I’m relocating to the DC area from out of town. Can you help?
Definitely, a good share of our work is folks landing here for a new posting or a new job. We coordinate the delivery window, meet you at the new place, and handle the parking permit, the building COI, or the HOA on this end. Your things travel on our truck with our crew, never handed off to whoever bids lowest that week.
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Not a problem. Reschedule or cancel with at least a day or two’ notice and your deposit comes back whole. Each of these terms is laid out plainly on your booking, so nothing is left in doubt.
